German A1 is your first step into the language. The Goethe-Institut defines this level as the ability to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. You will learn to introduce yourself, ask simple questions, and handle routine interactions when the other person speaks slowly and clearly.

Study tips

Start with 10-15 new words per day. Focus on nouns first — always learn them with their article (der, die, das) since gender is essential in German. Use the audio to practice pronunciation from day one; German vowel sounds differ significantly from English.

Grammar focus

Noun gender (der/die/das), basic present tense, personal pronouns, simple sentence structure (Subject-Verb-Object), numbers, and common prepositions.
